Lesson Description for Teachers

 

 

Summary:

This lesson, which includes an applet with virtual fraction bars, contains material to introduce the following fractions concepts: understanding the relationship between the whole and the fractions, equivalent fractions, ordering and comparing fractions, basic addition and subtraction of fractions, and different fraction size notations.

Grade Level:

3rd to 6Th.

Objectives:

Students will:

  • Have a strong understanding of fractions and will be familiar with the three different notations: fractions, decimals, and percents.
  • Have a good understanding of equivalent fractions.
  • Be able to compare and order fractions.
  • Understand basic addition and subtraction of fractions.

Materials:

A computer with Internet access.

Procedure:

The procedure is well covered in the lesson description page. It consists of material to present the fractions' concepts to the students as well as exercises for them to practice them.
