A Note to Teachers
Children from primary and secondary schools can play this game and the game helps children learn mathematics.
To win the game leave only one ball at the end of your last turn. How can you be sure to do this?
Notice that if player A leaves 4 balls remaining he is in control of the game because if player B then takes 1 or 2 balls he will leave either 3 or 2 balls remaining. If 3 balls remain the player A wins by removing 2 balls. If 2 balls remain the player A can remove 1 ball to win the game.
How can you be sure to leave 4 balls remaining? If player A leaves 7 balls remaining he is in control of the game because if the player B takes 1 or 2 balls he will leave either 6 or 5 balls remaining. If 6 balls remain the player A can end his turn by removing 2 balls. If 5 balls remain the player A can remove 1 ball to leave 4 balls.
